EASTER SUNDAY – Bring some flowers for the cross.
The message is surrounded around the meaning of the cross. Before Jesus, the cross was a symbol of torture and pain; it was the Roman “Electric Chair” of the day. The cross was the most horrific symbol of execution. After the resurrection of Jesus, this cross has become a symbol of beauty, resurrection, victory of our salvation and celebration. It is the most powerful symbol within Christianity. So the week of Easter, we ask all of our people to bring flowers. There will be a large cross, centered at the front, wrapped in chicken wire – not very pretty. On Easter Sunday, in the midst of my message, the congregation will arise and bring their flowers to the cross. Thus turning a ugly symbol of pain and torture into a symbol of beauty and victory. It is a powerful tradition. Families will gather after service to take family pictures. We will also have a communion as well.
